If you have had growing pain in your shoulder joint, followed by increasing stiffness and loss of motion, you may have frozen shoulder. What are some frozen shoulder causes and correlations?

Frozen shoulder occurs when the shoulder joint capsule thickens and tightens around the shoulder joint, restricting its movement.

It usually goes away by itself in a number of months, at least to some degree. For many people, though, some stiffness and limitation of shoulder movement remains.

The exact cause isn't known to medical science, but it seems to correlate with certain things:

  • a chronic rounded-shoulder, head-forward posture
  • shoulder disuse or immobility, i.e. after an injury or stroke
  • diabetes
  • thyroid dysfunction
  • cardiovascular disease
  • Parkinson's disease
  • Tuberculosis

You can find links to self-treatment tips for frozen shoulder here.

I wish you ease and comfort and full range of motion in your shoulder, and I am confident that you will be able to feel better.
